You need to take a break. These are words that any entrepreneur cringes at. The fear of slowing down, taking the foot of the throttle and not showing up. This goes against what all the “experts” say to do.

At the end of January I found myself in this very position. I was faced with 2 options…

  1. Keep pushing through, hustle harder, keep going
  2. Slow down and and listen, listen to what my body was trying to tell me

I choose option 2. So I let all my scheduled posts go and finished up anything that was outstanding. Then, the big scary thing; I didn’t do anything other than living. All of the hustle, work harder, push through mindset had to quite down. I had zero energy, I was burnt out and dealing with a pain like I’ve never felt before. Back and forth from Dr’s offices, surgeons and finally ended up in emergency. I was left waiting for an appointment with a specialist that was a 12 month wait. When your exhausted, in pain and get that kind of news it doesn’t make for a great reaction. I was distraught. After I pulled myself together, I knew I had to get into the drivers seat. For years I’ve dealt with other health issues; IBS, hypothyroidism, PCOS and food sensitives. So this wasn’t a foreign concept for me. I found a Naturopath who didn’t look at me like I was crazy. I’m confident that we’re headed down the right path. My energy is coming back and I’m having days where I’m not holding my side in pain.

Let’s get back to the fear I mentioned earlier. I’ve been away from my business for almost 4 months and guess what…nothing really bad happened. All the followers I had gathered along the way didn’t disappear like all the experts said they would. In fact, I received DM’s asking where I was and if everything was ok. So, thank you to those who reached out and sent me well wishes.

During my time away I had a lot of time to think. To think of where I wanted my little dream of business to go. How I wanted to continue to help my fellow entrepreneurial friends while still fuelling my creative side. That quite time as lead me to shift my business, to bring more tangible products to my clients. Products that will help them move more swiftly through the beginning stages of their businesses. My first pivot is my Boss Babe Template Bar. I’m all about taking messy inspired action. So I opened an ETSY shop while I get my shop up on my website and get accepted to Creative Market.

What did I learn? When it comes to your life, career, etc… there will always be people (in your life and outside influencers) telling you what you should and shouldn’t be doing. This is YOUR life, you are the one who has to lay your head on your pillow at night knowing that you lived today for you. We have been told, especially as mothers, that we need to take care of others first and then, if there is anything leftover, you can do you. This is so ass backwards. No matter what stage you’re at in your life you should always come first. When you put yourself first all your other relationships thrive. I want my girls, husband, friends and family to thrive, as I’m sure you do too.

As I navigate my business there are things I’ve gotten wrong, put me energy into the wrong things…BUT that is how I learned; that’s how you’ll learn. If you have a dream, start chasing it. Even if you don’t know what you’re doing. Taking messy action will pay off later….trust me. If you have a passion for something you will find the time for it. We all have the same 24 hours in day, make them count and please have courage to stand for something that will bring you joy.

Massive love,
